Maybe it was like that or wasn’t, but in cold northern woods lived very curious fox. She always wanted to know from where every morning the sun comes from and after who the wind is running after. As she saw her tail becoming golden in summer and turning ginger in winter again, she used to watch birds leaving in autumn and coming back in spring.
She liked autumn. It was her dreaming time. She spent long hours to find left fireplaces to sit next to and think. Think about life in other woods; about why her tail is so big and moon so far. But most of all she dreamt to learn make her own fire.
Fire would give freedom to survive alone! – she thought and decided to put on some polite dress and elegant hat and go to serious schools to meet wise people to get some good knowledge. But… no matter how hard she tried her animal side was following her. Her foxy tail often came out of dress and big ears made hat fall on her eyes or even fly to other side of the room… But she wasn’t the one who gives up. She just was stupid. She didn’t know that real strength is to follow your instincts not etiquette.
Years passed, but knowledge she came for didn’t come. All she knew, that there is no more time to noticed colour changes in her tail or birds going away. Even worst. She couldn’t remember last time when she was sitting at the fireplace warming up her dreams…
We think it was then, when she gave up everything and ran back in to the wood deeper than ever before. In the moment she opened her eyes it was only darkness all around. All she could hear was her own heartbeats echo between the trees. She laid down in the moss and tried to fall asleep. But it was too cold for a spoiled fox. Years in the city had made her even weaker for life alone. She knew that it was fireplace she needed. And she also knew, that tonight this deep in the woods there is no left fire around…
But something was changed after this long run in the darkness. She felt safe in some unexplainable way. Instead of being desperate she felt big power in herself. She crawled around in the dark and picked up the old branches from the ground. She put them in perfect pile and sat next to it. As soon as she got down a little spark came from her heart and fire up the branch. The flame became bigger and she felt warmer. The light became brighter and she understood, that all she was looking for was inside her. All these years there was no need to make a little flame, because there was a big fire. She was free from very beginning, just believed that one needs to earn it.
The sparkle she found in heart gave her freedom but the warmth from the flame made her feel safe. She was ready to see where the sun comes from and wind runs to. She just needed to remember one thing.
Take care about her inside flame.Photo by Vika Anisko
